From crypto to physical gold: a path that retains self-custody
You hold BTC, ETH, or stablecoins and you want part of that stack in physical gold: scarce, tangible, independent of any single government’s balance sheet. The usual path is familiar and slow. Sell crypto for fiat, move the cash through a bank, find a bullion dealer, arrange storage, insurance, and shipping. Each step adds cost, delay, and another intermediary between you and the metal.
For many crypto holders, this defeats the purpose of holding both crypto and gold, namely holding assets outside a bank and avoiding counterparty risk. You already self-custody and you already move value on-chain, so stepping back into bank transfers and dealer logistics for every gold purchase undoes part of what you built.
Swissgrams provides a different path. You acquire Swissgrams Gold (SGG) tokens, typically by exchanging crypto or other supported assets through a distribution partner. Each SGG token corresponds to one troy ounce of gold content in physical sovereign coins. Those coins are held with a specialist vaulting provider in Switzerland, not in a bank vault. Holders receive a clear co-ownership right in the gold reserve under Swiss law, not a contractual claim against the company. The gold sits off Swissgrams’ balance sheet, so even in insolvency, holders have a segregation claim outside the ordinary creditor process.
You can keep SGG in your own wallet and transfers happen on the Ethereum blockchain. The metal stays in Switzerland and the gold interest moves with the token. If and when you want to take delivery of physical coins, redemption starts from a single ounce. Tokens are returned, and the corresponding coins are released from custody.
The practical difference is the middle of the journey. You do not need a bullion shipment and a storage contract for every addition to your gold holdings. You hold a clear right in segregated metal, under Swiss property law, with a clear path back to physical coins whenever you choose.
